ANNA POMPEEVA is a dramatic lyric soprano praised by Opera Canada for her “warm, powerfully unaffected voice, wielded with hopeful longing and operatic command.” Since relocating to Canada from Ukraine in 2023, she has quickly established herself as a significant presence on the national opera stage, appearing with Calgary Opera, Edmonton Opera, the Calgary Civic Symphony, and Orchestre Classique de Montréal under Maestro Jacques Lacombe. Recent highlights include Freia in Wagner’s Das Rheingold (Calgary Opera, 2024) with Maestro Jonathan Brandani and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and her acclaimed debut as Sieglinde in Edmonton Opera’s Die Walküre (2025). Upcoming engagements include Verdi’s Requiem with the Calgary Philharmonic under Karen Kamensek (March 2026).
Between 2013 and 2022, Pompeeva was a leading soprano of the Kharkiv National Opera and Ballet Theatre, where her repertoire included Verdi’s Leonora (Il trovatore) and Desdemona (Otello), Puccini’s Tosca, Leoncavallo’s Nedda (Pagliacci), Tchaikovsky’s Lisa (The Queen of Spades), Massenet’s Cendrillon, and Mozart’s Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni). With the Wagner Society of Kharkiv, she also performed excerpts from Tristan und Isolde (including the Liebestod), Wagner’s Wesendonck-Lieder, and Elisabeth’s aria from Tannhäuser. Her concert repertoire includes Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Verdi’s Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, Bach’s Magnificat, and Schubert’s Mass in G Major.

Anna has toured extensively throughout Europe, with appearances in Spain, Poland, Hungary, Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium, performing in opera productions as well as presenting solo recital programs. She is a prizewinner of international competitions including the Montecatini Opera Academy Competition (Italy, 2022), Città di Alessandria International Music Competition (Italy, 2021), and the Grand Prix of the N.A. Obukhova Vocal Festival-Competition (Ukraine, 2009). In 2020, she received a Special Distinction from the Kharkiv Region of Ukraine for her contribution to cultural life and artistic excellence.
A graduate of the Kharkiv National University of Arts, she earned her Master’s degree in Opera and Chamber Singing in 2012. In 2017, she defended her dissertation in Music History, receiving the academic title of Candidate of Science.
